Phil Plckthun’s blog post on the same topic. (All the Arch Linux wiki pages are invaluable) Loc Pefferkorn’s very thorough blog post on setting up Arch Linux with encryption. I develop on it instead of on my desktop, everything looks really nice, and it runs very smoothly. I relied on three other Arch-on-MacBook guides to help me through the process: The MacBook and MacBookPro11,x Arch Linux wiki pages. That being said, there are the few issues that I mentioned, but I overall find it absolutely awesome. I prefer 96 DPI with the font size changed though. I use XFCE with 96 DPI and increase system font size, but it would probably be easier to just use a higher DPI instead.

Windows/Linux is with nvidia drivers / discrete GPU whereas OSX is mostly with integrated GPU. I haven't really tried in OSX, but I'm guessing it'd be 7-8 hours. Using MonoDevelop and compiling / browsing with Firefox, I get 4 hours or so. It doesn't work at all on Windows, you're forced to use the dedicated GPU.īattery life on Windows and Linux is pretty bad. I also haven't tried to get graphics switching working, but I don't imagine it would work well. At home with WPA2 Personal it works fine. I had some issues with connecting to Wi-Fi at my school (WPA2 Enterprise), but I haven't actually tried to get it working yet. An ethernet adapter will help a lot for this, otherwise you'll have to copy over b43 firmware from a different computer.

Previously installed Arch Linux on my wifes old MacBook Air. You'll probably have some issues with wi-fi, try to get wlan as it shows in the Archlinux installation guide. Run the command: timedatectl set-timezone Arch Linux ibus-rime. Batterry Issue: I'v used arch and artix for couple year on my MBP, everything is fine, smooth, but there is a problem, because OSX is apple stuff, so they make it very well, when using linux on Macbook, you must accept the risk. Note that with nvidia drivers, changing screen brightness will only take effect after you suspend and resume the laptop, so it takes a few seconds. It's seem Macbook with T2 Security isn't support linux very well, view this discussions.

I only went up to the Xorg install since I didn't want Xmonad.

Using rEFInd, I absolutely couldn't get nvidia drivers working at all.Įventually I found this guide and following that works roughly as expected, with a few minor changes required. I use Arch (KDE / XFCE) on my 15" MBPR, and while it was a huge pain to set up, it works quite nicely.
